History of the resort

The ATKV Eiland Spa had its origin in the 1900's when mr E.T. Elliot settled on the farm called the Eiland. He built the first brick house close to Black Hill. In 1924 the farm was sold to George St Ledger Devenish for 400 pounds without anyone knowing of the existence of the hot mineral spring. George St Ledger Devenish was a well-know Springbok rugby player. Although he did not live on the farm himself, his cousin Frank farmed there from 1924 to 1938. The spring is located 80 km underground and produces 60 000 litre of water per minute. The resort is situated within the Hans Merensky Nature Reserve.
